Snowy Owls Y3
Welcome to Snowy Owls!
'In a world where you can be anything, be kind'
Welcome back to Term 5!
I hope you are all having a relaxing Easter holiday. I can't believe how fast this school year is going!
We have booked a school trip to Sutton Courtney next term with Elf Owls. More information will be sent out later this term.
I can't wait to hear all about your holiday when I see you on Tuesday. Tuesday is also your first swimming lesson at Thame Leisure Centre. Please see below for the information that was also sent out on ParentMail last term.
Below is the main information you need to know for the third term.
Topic:
The next two terms we will be exploring our Local area and Rivers for our Geography Topic. I am also hoping to plan another trip to the Peers Centre.
Homework:
Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday.
On top of the homework given out on a Friday, it would be great if you could read with your child at least three times per week and sign their reading diaries (they will earn 1 dojo point for every three times they read and have their diaries signed at home.)
Some weeks I will set Times Table Rock Stars as homework. Please let me know if you need your child’s login.
Additional homework will be available on the homework grid. We will display any homework sent in from the homework grid in the classroom.
Spellings:
Spellings will be sent home every week.
Spelling tests will be on a Wednesday morning.
PE:
PE this term will be on a Thursday.
Please send your child to school dressed in their PE kit. PE Kits should consist of the following: navy, black or grey bottoms (shorts/ joggers/ PE skirt), white T-Shirt and navy, black or grey warm hoodie/ top if required. They need to come to school in their school shoes and have their trainers to change into for PE. This is so that they have clean shoes in the classroom.
Swimming:
We will be going swimming every Tuesday (starting the first day back) this term. We will travel to and from Thame Leisure Centre by coach.
Every Tuesday please come to school dressed in your school uniform with your swimming costume/shorts under. Don't forget to bring underwear to change into after swimming in your bag.
You will need to bring:
A swim hat, towel, goggles, swimming costume/shorts (not baggy)to be worn under your school uniform and underwear to change into after swimming.
If you have long hair please make sure it is tied up and that all jewellery is removed and left at home or at school. Jewellery that cannot be removed or is unable to be removed for religious reasons must be securely taped down or secured under additional clothing.
We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £20 towards the cost of transport please. This can be paid via ParentMail.
Whole Class Reading:
The whole class reading book this term will be: Operation Gadgetman by Malorie Blackman
It would be great if you could support your child in buying this book (if you are able to) so that they can have their own copy during our reading sessions.

Hopefully, this term will not be as wet and cold. Please still make sure you have outdoor shoes or wellies to change into for break and lunch on wet days, as well as a waterproof coat. Please also make sure you have a sunhat or cap in school for hot sunny days as well as apply suncream before coming to school in the morning. You can bring named suncream in to reapply at lunchtime if needed.
Our cloakroom is very small in Snowy Owls, so please can I ask that the children only bring the essentials to school (book bag, water bottle (water only please) and packed lunch). No big backpacks please.
As the children are now in KS2 they no longer receive a snack at school, so please send them with a healthy snack (fruit, vegetables, rice cakes or breadsticks) for break time.
Please catch me at the end of the day or contact me via the office (office@greatmiltonschool.co.uk) if you have any questions or there is anything that you need us to know.
