Boreal Owls Y4
April 2026
Welcome back to the Summer Term. I hope that you have all had a good break and been able to make the most of some of the sunshine we've been enjoying.
This term, we are really excited that our topic is 'Ancient Egyptians'. We will be learning lots about where and how they lived, their beliefs and how we know about this ancient civilisation.
Science- This term our science topic begins with 'All Living Things'
PE Days: PE Days this term will be Wednesdays (Mrs Marah) and Thursdays (Cricket with Mr Pearce). The children will need to come to school dressed in the correct school PE kit on those days. This includes a logo-free navy or black hoodie/top, plain white or school T-shirt, logo-free navy or black shorts or joggers.
Class Book : This term we will be reading 'The Secrets of The Sun King' by Emma Carroll. This is an exciting adventure story set in Victorian England and Ancient Egypt. If possible, please purchase your child a copy (It's currently £4.80 on Amazon) as this can really help develop their reading skills.
Homework: A fortnightly maths sheet is sent home based upon the children's learning in the classroom for that week. This is only fortnightly rather than weekly in order to give the children homework time for times table practice ( see below for more details). Spelling lists will be sent home for each term and tests will be on Tuesdays (with Miss Warne) . The children will also have a creative grid where they can choose an activity to complete during the term. Please see below this term's spelling sheets and creative grid.
Times tables : As you know, the children will be undertaking a national timetable test (MTC) this term. The national expectation is that all children in Year 4 know their timetables off by heart. Many children have worked hard on this and are progressing well. Lots more have managed to gain their 'Gone Green Certificate' on TTRS meaning they are now fluent and confident in their recall. Please encourage your child to continue practising. If you prefer not to use screens, then worksheets or recalling them verbally is just as good.
Contact: Please catch me sooner rather than later if anything is worrying you. The end of the day is the best time, or email us through the office.
Best Wishes,
Sara Marah
