Hawk Owls Y6

Welcome to Hawk Owls webpage!

I hope you've all had a restful holiday and are looking forward to a new start in year 6 – there will be lots of hard work but lots of fun too! I'm so pleased to be teaching again and can't wait to say hello to parents old and new as soon as I'm able to.

PE and Forest School

  • The children will be pleased to know that they have Forest School every Monday afternoon this term. Please can you make sure that the children come to school wearing school uniform and bring a Forest School kit to change into. The children will go outside in all weathers so please make sure their kit includes lots of warm layers (hats, gloves etc) and it's essential to have a waterproof coat, shoes and a pair of waterproof trousers for all sessions.
  • PE Lessons will be every Wednesday this term with Miss Wells. Please wear your kit to school on a Wednesday just as you would normally do.

HOMEWORK

  • This term the children will be set one piece of homework from myself and one from Miss Wells, just as teachers would set their own homework in secondary school.
  • Homework for Mrs Pinto will be set every Friday to be returned the following Friday.
  • Homework for Miss Wells will be set every Thursday to be returned the following Thursday.

READING

  • Our book this term is 'Boy in the Tower' by Polly Ho-Yen. There is a copy of this in class for everyone, but feel free to bring in your own (named) copy if you have one.
  • This term I will be setting the children a reading challenge. They will be challenged to read three quality texts that they've never read before by the Easter holidays. This is to extend vocabulary, and develop knowledge, reading skills and keep them away from the books that they always tend to reach for (Wimpy Kid and Tom Gates!) We're very lucky to have been donated some brand new books for the year 6 library so there will be some fresh texts to browse!

Anything else?

If you have any worries, then please catch one of us at the end of the day. I'd far rather tackle any concerns early so that problems can be sorted out quickly. Let's get cracking on the new term!
