Barn Owls Year 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely break and that the children are feeling refreshed and ready for an exciting new term ahead.

This term we have lots of engaging learning planned across the curriculum. In Maths, we will begin by learning all about money. The children will practise recognising coins and notes, making different amounts, finding change and solving money-based problems. Later in the term, we will move on to measuring, including temperature, volume and mass.

Our writing this term will be cross-curricular, meaning it will link closely with our other subjects. The children will have the opportunity to produce a wide range of pieces, including information writing, quiz writing, character descriptions, a book review, a leaflet, poetry, a report, and either a speech or a short play.

In Science, we will continue our investigations into what plants need in order to be healthy. The children will also carry out their own investigations based around a question for our “Big Science Project,” encouraging curiosity and scientific thinking.

In History, we will be learning about trains and cars, comparing early models with modern versions and exploring how transport has changed over time.

In Computing, we will be developing our data handling skills by looking at how data is used on the International Space Station, a topic I know will spark lots of interest!

P.E. with Mr Pearce will take place on Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their school P.E. kit on these days.

Home learning challenges will be sent home most Fridays.  We would encourage your child to select one of the options on the grid. We will also be sending home spelling practice too.  The spellings are taken from the recommended year 2 common exception words.

Each day, children should bring a water bottle to school. They are also very welcome to bring a healthy snack to enjoy during the day in addition to the fruit and vegetables provided.

I am really looking forward to continuing our learning journey together this term and to seeing all the wonderful progress the children will make.

                                                                                                         Best wishes
