Below is the main information you need to know for Term 1, our first term together.

I am so excited about teaching you again! I hope you have all had a great summer and enjoyed the sunshine.

Term starts on Thursday 4th September. I will be out on the playground to meet you.

 Loving to Learn at Home

Learning Missions: KS2

Mission Control: 

Read 📚 (non-negotiable)
Read for 20 minutes each day and talk to someone about it. Recommend your book to someone else.

Number Facts 🔢 (non-negotiable) 

Practise any facts that you don’t yet know with instant recall- this can be in the car, on a walk, while brushing your teeth. Use songs, rhymes, actions and so on. Know them off by heart. 

Mission 1 – Investigate 🔎
Visit the class page to look at the knowledge organisers and extend your learning on it. You could present this in a quiz, word search, crossword, poster, booklet. The options are endless!

Mission 2 – Real Life Maths 🧮
Find a maths problem in everyday life and work it out. Practise telling the time and handling money. Visit TTRS too to practise your times table and division recall. 

Mission 3 – Think 💭
Discuss this week's big question with someone at home.

Mission 4 – Create 🎨
Show something you have learned in a creative way. Build it, act it, sing /rap it, sew it, draw it, paint it. We’d love to see how you have been inspired.

Mission 5 – Challenge Yourself ⭐
Choose something you find difficult and practise it. Remember every time you challenge yourself, you grow your brain. You could login to Language Nut and challenge yourself to learn a new language.

Please choose 2 missions each week to complete at home. We would love you to share your learning missions with your teacher and your class. We will display your learning in the hall for everyone to see. We have posted spelling lists and knowledge organisers for some subjects to support your learning.

This will take place in the week beginning 28th September. Please see parentmail email sent home at the end of term for more information.

Topic: History

Our topic for the first term is: What can the census tell us about local areas?

PE:

PE this term will be on a Tuesday and a Thursday.

Please send your child to school dressed in their PE kit. PE Kit should consist of the following: navy, black or grey bottoms (shorts/ joggers/ PE skirt), white T-Shirt and navy, black or grey warm hoodie/ top if required. They need to come to school in their school shoes and have their trainers to change into for PE. This is so that they have clean shoes in the classroom.

Whole Class Reading:

Our first book in Year 6 is going to be Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

We have got enough copies in school, but you are, of course, more than welcome to buy a copy if your child wants their own copy.

Buddy time:

Buddy time will start when the new Elf Owls children have settled in. This year we have decided to do a joint Forest School session as Buddy time on a Friday afternoon. A parentmail email will be sent so you know when to send Forest school clothes in.

 

Please can you make sure your child has outdoor shoes or wellies to change into for break and lunch, as well as a waterproof coat every day (a spare pair of socks in your bag can also be very handy). On hot and sunny days, put suncream on before you come to school. Bring suncream in your bag if you need to reapply it at lunchtime and make sure you have a hat and refillable water bottle in school every day.

 

 In KS2, children no longer receive a snack at school, so please send them with a healthy snack (fruit, vegetables, plain breadsticks or rice cakes) for break time. If your child needs a snack in the afternoon, please send enough healthy snacks for both.

No pencil cases are needed, we have everything your child needs at school.
