Snowy Owls Y3

                                           Welcome to Snowy Owls!

'In a world where you can be anything, be kind'

I hope you are having a restful summer holiday and enjoying the sunshine.

I can’t wait to see you all on Wednesday!

We are lucky to have Mrs Grayshon (Monday to Thursday mornings) and Miss Sansom (Friday mornings) as our Teaching Assistants this coming year.

Below is the main information you need to know for the first term.

Forest school:

We will be having Forest school with Mrs Howlett every Thursday afternoon (starting the first Thursday back). Please can the children come to school in their school uniform and have their forest school clothes to change into.

Please make sure they have a waterproof coat and trousers (if available) and wellies or outdoor shoes. They should also have a long sleeved top and trousers, tracksuit bottoms or leggings. When we get closer to half term and it gets colder make sure the children have enough layers to keep them warm outside.

Topic:

This term our topic will be The Stone Age to Iron Age, where the children will learn all about this prehistoric time when the earliest hunter-gatherers came to Britain.

We will be using the book 'Stone Age Boy' by Satoshi Kitamura to achieve some exciting writing as well as explore the topic in Geography and History

Homework:

Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday.

On top of the homework given out on a Friday, it would be great if you could read with your child at least three times per week and sign their reading diaries ( they will earn 1 dojo point for every three times they read and have their diaries signed at home.

Some weeks I will set Times Table Rock Stars as homework. Please let me know if you need your child’s login.

Additional homework will be available on the homework grid. We will display any homework sent in from the homework grid in the classroom.

Spellings:

Spelling tests will be on a Thursday morning.

PE:

PE this term will be on a Wednesday and a Friday (starting the first week back).

Please send your child to school dressed in their PE kit. PE Kit should consist of the following: navy, black or grey bottoms (shorts/ joggers/ PE skirt), white T-Shirt and navy, black or grey warm hoodie/ top if required. They need to come to school in their school shoes and have their trainers to change into for PE. This is so that they have clean shoes in the classroom.

Whole Class Reading:

For our whole class reading we will be using the book ‘The Last Bear’ by Hannah Gold.

It would be great if every child could have their own copy as we will be using it for Guided Reading as well as English.

Here is a link to it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Last-Bear-stunning-childrens-battle/dp/000841131X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=FLLQBMXCF6AK&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.FaI6RTcUYs18ZSc6MXJwt8pBMYx2u4vjeaNeddXECc19YKpgo4s0wzeyCpKOupMKZOjEfrOf5A9RaKcjNunAzyvwhBHsb6aPwW964FuJniEruKimqb6wGiBWG551BY99-1-s7PnK16WgIjnavQCJrbFU1YVUIlAsPzLI4qqMmqFHX6H1wo9IXLv9idVJh4SMb4C4ZHTZ-oV_a4X286nLAcLm-JXjVtvAlb56lT2dkXY.ijb3VyWAK2t1BFUg4eGMFSdIlrLwO-7dg1W965dsmOw&dib_tag=se&keywords=the+last+bear+hannah+gold&qid=1725208719&sprefix=the+last+bear%2Caps%2C89&sr=8-1 (but it could of course be purchased from other retailers).

We will start the book a couple of weeks into the term.

When the weather turns later this term (hopefully not too soon), please can you make sure your child has outdoor shoes or wellies to change into for break and lunch as well as a waterproof coat every day.

Our cloakroom is very small in Snowy Owls so please can I ask that the children only bring the essentials into school (book bag, water bottle (water only please) and packed lunch), no big backpacks please.

As the children are now in KS2 they no longer receive a snack at school, so please send them with a healthy snack (fruit or vegetables are ideal) for break time.

Please catch me at the end of the day or contact me via the office (office@greatmiltonschool.co.uk) if you have any questions or there is anything that you need us to know.

Mrs Dickson
